The just announced Samsung Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Camera will both benefit from 50GB of free Dropbox cloud storage. The Dropbox offer however will be valid for two years and after that period users would have to pay for their cloud-stored files.

Amazon gets patent for tablet with a screen on both front and back

Imagine viewing a video on a tablet, and then flipping it over to read an eBook. Such a dual-screen tablet could be eventually produced as on-line retailer Amazon has just been awarded a patent for a tablet with both a traditional LCD screen on front and a static e-ink display on back. The tablet would use its rear and front-facing camera to determine which side is currently being viewed by the tablet’s user.

Asustek to launch new smartphones in 2Q13

After temporarily stepping out of the handset market in 2011, Asustek Computer president Jerry Shen, at the company’s investors conference on August 29, said the company will return to the market and will launch new smartphones in the second quarter of 2013 with both Android and Windows Phone 8 being considered.

Asustek joined the handset market in 2003 and in 2009 cooperated with Garmin to release products under the Garmin-Asus brand. But the cooperation was later folded with Asustek deciding to temporarily leave the market.

Chips reaching their limits as smartphones progress

The semi-conductor business, for all its progress, is a balancing act. The industry, from AMD to Xilinx, advances their product lines and specifications at a blinding speed, sometimes exceeding the spirit of “Moore’s Law” which basically states, that the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles about every two years. Certainly in some cases, we have seen this technology advance at an exponential rate. This law applies in the context of miniaturization as well.

Samsung will sue Apple immediately if they release an LTE device

Samsung’s recent loss in court might have triggered some interesting processes inside the company pushing it to develop closer ties with Microsoft to cut its dependency on Android. Additionally, Samsung is developing a deeper relationship with carriers in developing new technologies that will keep it away from Apple patent claims, according to Korea Times.
