The Google Nexus 7 has a meltdown

Note to self: Never leave a device charging while unattended. Why, you ask? Because there’s always the off chance that something like this could happen.

What you’re looking at are images of one user’s Nexus 7 after it was left charging — unattended — for a good couple of hours. When the owner returned to where the Nexus 7 should have been sleeping peacefully, she was greeted with a room with smoke and the Nexus 7 melted to a toasty Pop-Tart.

Google announces Nexus 4 smartphone, Nexus 10 tablet, Android 4.2

Google on Monday introduced a new Nexus 4 smartphone to take on Apple’s iPhone 5, a 10-inch iPad competitor named the Nexus 10, and launched a new version of its Nexus 7 tablet with cellular data connectivity.

The trio of new products all run Android 4.2, what the company called a “new flavor” of its mobile operating system code-named Jelly Bean.

The products were initially planned to be unveiled at a media event in New York, but Hurricane Sandy prompted the search company to cancel its media presentation. As such, the new products were simply unveiled via a press release on Monday.

New Nexus 7 Pricing Confirmed: $199 For 16GB, $249 For 32GB

Google is dropping the price on its 7-inch tablet. The 16GB model will soon cost $199, down from the original $249 MSRP. Likewise, a new model, a 32GB flavor, will occupy the $249 price point. There’s no word what’s to come of the 8GB model although early speculation stated that it could drop in price by as much as $100.

Google was supposed to have a big Android event today in NYC. But Hurricane Sandy decided to visit The Big Apple, take in a show and blow-in the sights.

The new Nexus 7 prices comes by Office Depot, a major US electronic retailer, which is currently displaying the 32GB model in one of its stores. The pricing is in line with recent speculation.
